"Parlay" rule

"Parlay" rule

Postby AndrewMc » Mon Sep 27, 2010 12:49 am

After reading about some larger airsoft events around the country, I've noticed that a common rule is the "Parlay rule". Essentially, if 2 combatants shoot each other at the same time at close range, or even come upon each other and both try to safety kill the other, they say "Parlay" and back off to a point where they're out of sight again. Currently, what usually happens in a situation like this is people get mad and argue, until someone is required to become the bigger man and leave the field. This could also apply in those incredibly awkward "Whose team are you on?" moments. I think the Parlay rule would be a good thing to begin integrating into our local games, and if anyone has any other suggestions, post them up.

Again, this rule was the stanard for most games in WA. Other than what you described, there is one other thing to it, once the parlay was called, the two people involved don't shoot at each other, but other players can engage if they are not in parlay too. (hope that makes sense)

Well I don't know what others would think, but when we are all playing on the main side (side containing garage) saying parlay will lead to situations of exploiting maybe.

i.e. 'parlay' and while one walking away the other has a team member close that waits to shoot when that other player involved is walking away. I mean would only be an issue when one team is grouped into pairs.

do you guys see that happening?
I was told my head sticks out, and what do you aim at when you only see the head?

It's worth a try...though I have honestly never seen it used (Though it has always been a rule of the game) in every game I've played in the midwest. If it's being exploited, you can definitely tell. The 'parlay' event is a fluke, and the rule really exists to resolve the uncommon situation quickly. If you have people calling out "Parlay!!" every game, there's def something going on. I'm all for the rule being adopted.

I personally think a "remove the stick from your ass before entering the field" rule would be more effective. IT'S A GAME, HAVE FUN WITH IT AND BE HONORABLE! I personally haven't really encountered a situation where this rule would have come into effect but it's going to be a hell of a time trying to get everyone to understand what it actually is and is used for.

Trevor the "Viking" and I could have used this rule one day when we met at the corner of the Echo room. Instead we just called it a tie and both went out.

As it really should be, that's the difference between taking things too seriously and just having a good time playing a game. I'm not really for or against implementing the rule, on one hand it could solve some drama, on the other it could cause confusion and possibly more drama, the same way the safety kill rule can sometimes cause drama.

Well, I do remember my first game.

We were playing attack and defend on a hill, in which I was defending.
I ran over south side of the hill, and noticed just 5 meters away some dude was walking up the hill.
I pulled up my gun (which was set to fully automatic), and then he noticed me and pulled up his.
I shot first, I got him too.
he was honorable and said hit.

now this rule would have come in handy if I new about it and needed it at this moment.
so i say thumbs up.

I'm all for it. I used it once ( to no avail, dude was a douche bag and shot me anyways ) in Sacramento when I first started playing. Even used it once at a game here in ak, which worked better. I'm all for it. As a host, I feel you have the opportunity, and RIGHT to set some guidelines, And implement new rules. Try using it at this game Andrew, Since you are the host. $.02
