Radio opinions

Postby ErikT22 » Mon Jun 03, 2013 12:13 am

Any opinions on radios less than $50 or so? I'd like weatherproof, rechargeable, both frs and gmrs. Thanks

If you are looking to upgrade your radio game and move above FRS/GMRS capabilities I have some suggestions.

Start looking at Radios that can TX/RX in the UHF 400-470 Mhz band. These radios will feature a much higher gain and can all be programmed to the FRS/GMRS freqs (pending they have CT/CSS).

I've been rolling with a PUXING 777 UHF (400-470 Mhz) which is a computer and hand programmable UHF radio. It has 128 channels for memory and a decent gain. It is decently durable and accepts kenwood 2 pin connections for headset use. All for about $80 (http://www.amazon.com/electronics/dp/B007CCNN3A).

I am looking to add another radio which this time will more than likely be a PUXING 888k as it has dual channel capabilities. This means it can do everything the 777 can but it also can TX/RX in VHF freqs as well.

If you get the PX-888 make sure it is the K model for dual channel...otherwise you will be stuck with either UHF or VHF but not both.
