Information on External Gas Guns

Postby Baronvonsmooch » Mon Oct 21, 2013 4:03 pm

Well this guy went ahead and entered the Classic Airsoft realm

Over the weekend I bought a Daytona Gun M249 built into a UK ARMS (A&K w/Trademarks) body.
Daytona Guns are a more modern improvement on the Classic Escort Gas Blow Back System that is powered by external gas. The system operates a lot like Real Steel firearms or GBBRs with a working bolt and blow back action to cycle the next rounds, except these have been engineered to accept AEG barrels and AEG Mags.

The benefit of this system (besides the amazingly awesome recoil) is that there are absolutely no electronic components to deal with at all. It also is able to run on HPA, CO2, or Nitrogen which is a nice option should I need to. The Hop Up is a very hard substance that once broken in (5000 to 10000 rounds) is on par or better with consistency with those found in AEGs.

The downside is, I will be spending a bunch more time cleaning and maintaining this system as there are several moving parts that requiring cleaning and lubrication each and every time it is used. The gas system also is not nearly as efficient as that found in the P* because the P* is controlled by a solenoid (I can overlook this due to the recoil and lack of electronics).

This brings me to a question for the community. I need to learn about how the external rig works.

P* users (Kyle and others), what components should I be pursuing to complete this weapon system.
The weapon changes rate of fire and FPS by varying the PSI. The normal operating range is between 90 to 190 PSI depending on the field rules. I've read that my best bet would be a palmer's air regulator as this will allow both CO2 and HPA via the same regulator. I have also seen that a Ninja HPA Carbon Fiber tank (90 cui and 4500 psi) will work best for me with the support weapon role. I know that I will probably require QD points for all of these things as well as air lines (probably a cover for the line as well like the CADPAT one you have Kyle).

What am I missing and where can I get it all? On the AirsoftFix site I saw that there is mention of getting Ninja tanks but can I get a complete air rig made up there?

I'd love to bring it by the shop once this monster gets in later this week so you guys can give it the once over and let me know if I am missing anything.

We have a Ninja 90cu tank in stock right now - I don't think the website shows it in stock, however.

I'd stick to HPA only. You can get fills at Dive Alaska in Anchorage or Splatterhouse in Wasilla. Ray has a scuba tank he brings to games that he can fill from as well.

If you're going the HPA route, look into the Redline Firebase air rig. AirsoftFix can order one up for you. It's one of the few Airsoft-specific HPA regs that has a tournament lock capability (there's a hole drilled above the adjustment hex screw that a ref can insert a zip-tie seal into). While AA doesn't require tourney locks, big national events and fields with large player bases are starting to require this for all P* and classic guns.

The Redline Firebase has the super-flexible hose and QD attachment like I run on my P*. You would need to get a connector for the gun. You might be able to use the grip connect like I have on my P* - I'd have to look at the gun in person first.

So I'm gonna have to wait to bring it by the shop. The Post Office really jacked this one up. They must have crushed the box and hit it with a forklift because the frame on the SAW is very badly torqued and a bunch of the externals are smashed in. The box looks like a bear got at it. :x

Looking now for a SAW Para or a Mk 46 that I can fit the engine in.
